OK, so, last weekend was INSANELY COOL!!! Forgive me if it sounds like this blog post is some sort of sponsorship or brand deal, and also is devoid of my typical "wit", because it isn't and sort of sponsored thing---I just found a new happy place.

Blue and I were both totally tired and we decided to have a weekend away. So, I pulled out of my back pocket the most EPIC place that I had found several months ago when doing research on what I wanted to do whilst in England! It's called Gladstone's Library and it's potentially my new favourite place on Earth. Basically, it's a library---started with the personal collection of Victorian-era prime minister Gladstone---that you can stay in over night! It has a restaurant and bedrooms, and it's a working library. Apparently some authors stay there for a month at a time to work on their projects and give masterclasses and talks, but sadly none of them were there at the time, at least to our knowledge. But I acquired a new goal: become one of those authors one day!

The library itself is really beautiful. Here's the Theology Room, which is also the area of the library with seating and desks for people to work on whatever.

a beuatiful reading room with white walls, brown wood bookshelves full of old books, brown arches in the ceiling and daylight streaming in from non-visible walls on the top of two floors. the bottom floor, visible through the middle over the balcony, is warmly lit with armchairs.

And here's the outside of the library!

a brown brick wide Georgian style two-store house that's actually a library. it has wings on the side and a lawn in the middle

We arrived there on Saturday. We could have actually prolonged our stay by a day since Blue's tutor cancelled on him last minute Friday, btu of course we didn't know that when booking. It was about 6 hours of being on trains and waiting on trains to get to the little village (called Hawarden) in Wales that it's in from London, but at least I got to work on some creative writing on the train! But I was pretty tired by the time I got there.

We went up to our room---a cute little room with some twin beds, a view out onto the roof (full of scaffolding as they're doing construction) and a desk that inexplicably had no chair. And they also have a cute vintage radio in the room! I got the bed next to the window because I like waking up to the morning light, and then we went to tea!

They gave us an insane amount of pastries and sandwiches to the point we finished maybe half of what they gave us, and then we took a tour of the library before we went walking around the village! But we didn't see much, because we came upon this gate that led to "Hawarden Estate"---and if there's anything to draw in two Janeites, it's an estate! It turned out to basically be a bunch of fields open to the public to walk around---the kind of thing American parks wish they could be. Everything was so lush and green (because they actually get precipitation here) and we had an amazing walk. We went down into a valley and down an old path with little stone walls that must be hundreds of years old, and found a field of sheep! But the pièce de resistance of the Estate was when we went up a hill, and we found a Norman castle! There was a tower with moss between the bricks and a Welsh flag flying on top surrounded by what must have been hundreds of daffodils. It was beautiful, but we couldn't find a way to get up there, so we ended up going back to the hotel.

the ruins of a castle tower atop a hill whose side is full of daffodils. the bottom of the image is sadly ugly brown brush. the tower is only the bottom of what it would have once been as it was partially destroyed.some sheep in a field!

We watched the movie Crossroads with Britney Spears, which is surprisingly dark, first of all! Also, I'm surprised I never watched it back in my Britney Spears phase (about 2018-2022). The main character's love interest had bad vibes I couldn't quite pinpoint, and I think it's so gross that this movie, about freshly 18, freshly out of high school girls, has such a hyperfixation on the main character having sex for the first time, especially when the target audience was probably younger girls.

Then we went to dinner! For starters Blue had foccacia and beetroot hummus, and I had an UNBELIEVABLE mixed-pepper soup with really delicious bread. For our main course we got chicken chasseur, which is a French dish with chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes with some sort of sauce. It was pretty good!

I got to do some creative writing in the library after dinner, and since my laptop didn't connect to the library's Wi-Fi, I had a really great distraction-free place to focus on my writing! I'd love to go on a writing retreat there someday. After the library closed, we washed up and went to bed!

The next morning we got up and went to the complimentary continental breakfast. Somehow I took continental breakfast to mean English breakfast, so I was looking forward to fresh eggs, bacon, etc., and instead had to suffer through cold eggs, toast with marmalade (which I didn't realize I hated as I'd never had it) and wheat flakes. We then set off on a walk to the local Farm Shop on the Hawarden Estate. We checked it out and decided to come back for lunch, and in the meanwhile had another walk through the other side of the Estate! And eventually... came across the castle and were able to get all the way up! There were more ruins we hadn't seen, including a dungeon, and a more contemporary house below. It was amazing and the moment was really beautiful as we sat amidst the daffodils in front of a 700-year-old castle as a gentle spring breeze blew by.

more ruins i don't really know how to describe other than there are doors and maybe it used to be hallways but now it's covered in grassthe outside of a dungeon cell amidst some leaves and trees

We went back and had quite a nice lunch, but on our walk back to the library came down with stomach cramps that plagued us the rest of the day. I'm not actually sure if mine was a period or not. (For those reading who might be inclined to fight on that, yes, I know trans women don't have uteri and therefore can't menstruate, however we do have hormone cycles mirroring cis women's and therefore can get some PMS-like symptoms.) I'm not a doctor, and being relatively early in my transition, I have no clue what a period feels like. But maybe that's what it was? I do feel a bit moodier than general as well. I'm not sure. Agh!!

Anyways, I chilled in the library---napping/listening to my iPod as I was in a bit too much pain to do any writing, sadly---until we caught our trains back to our respective abodes. Overall, despite the cramps on the second day, it was a really amazing trip and we're both dying to go back there!!

And that's about it. Sidenote to any AFAB readers or other trans girls with period/PMS-like symptoms---how the hell are we supposed to deal with this? this immobilized me for the past three and a half days, and I dread having to work on this.

These past few days, I've continued my Bob Ross classes (my last one is tomorrow) and I completed another painting (this one took two days as it's rather complicated.) I think the most recent tutorial we've used is the same one Ann Reardon, one of my favourite YouTubers, uses in this video:

Or at least I thought it. It turns out they're just very similar, but the one we did has a trail and the land shape is different, plus it's mistier. But either way, honestly, my finished painting isn't perfect, but I think it's still pretty great! I'd say it's pretty great for my first time painting mountains, and I'm at least glad that I salvaged the snow caps on top of the mountains (there was a moment when I almost completely thought I had ruined it) and that I managed to make the trees in the foreground look somewhat similar to trees instead of just green triangles.

I've also finally felt the inspiration to write again! (Huzzah!) Sadly, I'm not able to write at my old rates yet, though. Somehow, in the springtime, I was normally managing 1000 words a day, whereas right now I'm doing maybe a fifth of that. I suppose I might just be a bit rusty though, as it's my first time in two months or so where I've felt able to write any stories at all. I should also finish a couple unfinished WIPs I have laying on my hard drive sometime.

Also, my school sent out the supply list, which includes the named of the teachers for each class, and apparently the new science teacher who'll be teaching chemistry and biology shares the same last name as my great-grandparents. I wonder if we're related? I hope that said new teacher, as well as the new English teacher, are cool.

Also, I need to read my human geography summer reading book that we've been assigned but honestly, I don't think anyone else in my grade has done any summer reading, and I don't want to think about school yet, especially not the person who's teaching it. (I don't know if I've said this before here, but he will swear up, down, left and right that he won't give us weekend homework and then assigned something on Thursday and makes it due Monday or Friday and makes it due Tuesday because it's apparently not weekend homework if we can work on it during the week.)

Anyways, I want to go write some more instead of griping, even as therapeutic as complaining to my Internet friends may be, so I'll talk to you all later. Bye!

So in my unending pit of nostalgia, the past couple of days I redownloaded some Angry Birds games from the App Store. (Side note, I think it's stupid that they removed the older Angry Birds games like the OG one, Angry Birds Space, etc, from the App Store, but thankfully I downloaded them before they got removed.) But anyways, the OG Angry Birds is pretty fun but I love Angry Birds Space. I never remembered it being this fun when I played it when I was younger! I love that you can skip between the different worlds as you like instead of having to go through them linearly, plus the whole aesthetic is so cool!

Also, I've been considering putting a writing section on my site for some short stories and stuff. I've seen a few other sites on Neocities that do that and it's super cool! However, I'd need to write short stories first, considering that most of my writing, at least the recent stuff that's palatable, is a bit of a longer form. But yeah, you might be looking out for that soon, I guess!

Another thing to be looking out for is my vlogs! (I know, great segue.) Last night, I edited the two episodes that I filmed the other day, and though they're different for what I have planned for the rest of the first "season" of episodes (my first stockpile), they're still pretty interesting in my opinion. I might film another episode or two today, but I'm planning to do quite a bit of filming on the weekdays of this next week. Other than writing, working on this site and creating the vlogs, I've also had some time to read finally! I've been able to make some decent progress on the book I'm currently reading, which has been really great. I also got some more Sarah Dessen books from the library, so I'm going to read those once I'm finished with the book I'm reading atm.

But yeah, that's pretty much it! (Summer this year is obv pretty uneventful so far) I'll talk to you all soon!

So a lot has happened in the past few days.

First of all, I've worked some more on my philosophy final assignment, which I really should be doing now, but I just don't feel like it.

Second of all, my school decided for some unknown reason decided to host a semi-formal at some outdoor pavillion, and I somehow decided to go. Basically the whole thing was three hours of food and people dancing with colour-changing strobe lights. At least there was some ABBA and Backstreet Boys music later on, and an Emma Bunton song around the start of the party. I still don't know why I decided to go, but oh well.

Third of all, I just got my first dose of the COVID vaccine about an hour and a few minutes ago, and so far so good! And I'm also getting McDonald's for lunch :)

Finally, of course I've been working more on my new WIP, though I wish that it wasn't finals season so I could work on it some more. BUt such is life, and finals season and this school year will both be over soon enough. So now I have to actually stop being lazy and work on my damn philosophy final, so I'll talk to you all later. Bye!

So first of all, my site's reached 100k views, so thank you all so much for that! *insert narcissism thinly veiled in humbleness here!* But in all reality, thank you!!

But aside from that, I've been binging a let's play of Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch over the past few days, and it looks like such an amazing game! I just wish I had a Switch or a Playstation to play it. There is technically a PC version, but I have a Mac, and I hate rebooting into Boot Camp Windows and it'd probably run poorly in a VM. :(

Of course, I've also been doing some more work on my WIP, including going back and revising a few scenes I've akready written, and I think it's coming along very nicely!

But yeah, I'm gonna go write now, so ttyl!

Hey everyone, long time no see! Sorry I haven't updated the site in a while, but I've been busy. ⟨/3 But, I'm back! So basically, the 411 on my life since my last post is as follows:
  1. My class had to plan a film festival (we're only showing one film, so does it really count?) for some sort of school activity. Naturally, my group came up with a cool name and logo, which were promptly rejected by another group. Oh well.
  2. I've done quite a bit of writing on a new WIP that is quite possibly my best yet! The only problem is that I'm still about 1500-2000 words from finishing my prior WIP, but I'm already so into my new one that it's kind of hard to get into the "spirit" of my old characters.
  3. I've discovered the wondrous activity that is sitting on the couch and eating neapolitan ice cream out of a mug. Now you can just drink the melted ice cream instead of having to scrape it up with a spoon!
  4. I have a dentist's appointment at 11:00, which is in less than an hour. Hoo boy. At least it'll be over with by lunchtime. I wonder if they'll let me listen to my iPod during my appointment?

Anyways, I need to go sync my iPod, so ttyl!

So I had today off for parent teacher conferences! It went pretty well (except physics, my teacher complained about me not being "engaged" enough), and afterwards, I watched some Gilmore Girls and ate some neapolitan ice cream out of a mug. Honestly, eating ice cream out of a mug is so much better that eating it out of a bowl in my opinion, because you can drink the melted ice cream way easier after you've eaten all the rest!

Of course, I also did some writing on some projects that I've been working on and I've been considering starting some sort of literary journal or something where students from my city can publish short stories. I should see if one exists, though, since I only really know about stuff going on in my school, which is pretty small, and there are two massive high schools in my area.

purplehello98: (Default)
Hey everyone! Sorry for the radio silence these past few days, but I've been really busy and I haven't had enough free time to really do much outside of school. However, I have tomorrow off of schooL! I've also been doing plenty of writing and I came up with an idea for a story that I think is pretty cool! I've only told it to a few friends though, because I don't really like to publicly talk about what I'm doing until I've finished it. Also, I've been listening to MCND's new comeback recently and it's great! I was going to stan them after Spring, but their comeback after that put me off a bit. But now with ATEEZ and MCND having such great comebacks I might start stanning them soon! Anyways, I'd write more but it's almost dinnertime and I'm really hungry so talk to you later!
purplehello98: (Default)

I want a Subway sandwich so much right now. Also I love Sprite omg. Also, I listened to Oops!... I Did It Again and Britney (the albums) by Britney Spears today, and they're so amazing! Also, Minchan wrote a letter on the fancafe! I hope he gets better soon!

Also, as a sidenote, I hate that you have to type in a specific code in your HTML editor to get accents or some special characters to display on your web page. I just want to have some French on my website but I have to constantly search to see what code corresponds with which character!

Finally, I've been doing some more writing today, and I really think it'd be super cool to make a page on this site with some of my writing! I've also been thinking about extracurriculars recently, despite the fact that my school doesn't really have any this year (for obvious reasons), but still, I hope there's some sort of writing club or something next year!

purplehello98: (Default)
So I've been doing a ton of writing today! I haven't shared any of my writing yet but I might someday! Anyways I have a super cool idea that I'm pretty excited to write! Also, I recently revamped the site in case you didn't notice, so basically what I did is I made all the text pretty and justified, plus I got rid of the navbar on the top and made it a sidebar, plus some other various changes around the site. But yeah, I think that this new version of the site is super cool and I hope that you all do too!
